The Psalmist said, "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handiwork." (Psalms 19:1) Based upon the evidence of the order of this universe and its origin, faith in God as "Lord of heaven and earth" is reasonable. But the man who denies God and believes in eternal matter must have a strong and UNreasonable faith.
True faith in God is neither unreasonable nor blind. Much testimony supports faith in God. In fact, when one carefully examines the evidence of God's creation, it seems far more unreasonable to deny that God made the world and all things in it than to believe that He did. (Acts 17:24)

Can We "Know"? Floyd ThompsonCertainly the apostles knew Christ in the flesh, but as early as the first century people were denying that Christ had come in the flesh. First John uses the expression, "by this we know" or "hereby we know" or the simple expression "we know" more than any other writer. The apostles gave the evidence they had seen as their proof, using the statement "by this means we know." In Acts 2:36, Peter said, "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God hath made this same Jesus whom ye crucified both Lord and Christ."
There are many things you and I "know confidently" that we have never seen, never experienced, but the evidence present is abundant to convince us that we "know." I have never been in a typewriter manufacturing plant, but "I know" that typewriters are made up of component parts that are manufactured, then assembled. I know that. I know they do not grow on trees, nor are they mined from the earth, just as they are. We know many things about God and Christ that we have not seen. But we confidently affirm and believe them. We know a greater power than ours set this universe in motion, with the sun, moon and stars in place, and with all the natural laws in effect. The evidence of this power is too abundant to shrug off as a happenstance. So the evidence of Christ's earthly existence, of His death, burial and resurrection is abundant enough to cause any thoughtful person to say, "I know assuredly that God hath made this same Jesus whom ye have crucified both Lord and Christ." They Say The Bible Is UnscientificIn Genesis 1:1, the five basic facts of science are all dealt with: 1. Time - "In the beginning" 2. Force - "God" 3. Action - "Created" 4. Space - "Heavens" 5. Matter - "Earth" Job 26:7 "he stretcheth out the north over empty space." The empty space is there. Scientists discovered it much later than Job's time. "He hangeth the earth upon nothing." How many years before the world discovered that the earth is floating in space? Job 38:8-11: Control of the waves of the sea. "hitherto shalt thou come.but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed." The Bible is not contrary to true science (knowledge). Rather, it is pre-scientific Isaiah 40:22 "He sitteth above the circle of the earth." When did man discover the rotundity of the earth? Leviticus 17:11: "The life of the flesh is in the blood." This fact was only recently discovered by scientists. |
